Words + Music
Building Original IP Into a Multiplatform Entertainment Franchise
ROLE
Producer · Creative Executive · Franchise Development · Integrated Marketing
CONTEXT
Words + Music pairs intimate first-person storytelling with the music that shaped each artist’s life and career. What began as a series of individual artist projects grew into one of Audible’s signature music properties, creating opportunities to extend its storytelling across formats and experiences.
CONTRIBUTION
I helped build Words + Music from the content outward, developing and producing original projects with artists including Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Common, John Legend, Brandy, Yo-Yo Ma, Tom Morello and others.
As Producer and Creative Executive, I owned projects from creative development through production, integrated marketing and audience-facing launch. My role spanned narrative development, talent and partner management, audio and music storytelling, and creative and copy contributions across select campaign executions.
As the body of work grew, Audible launched a dedicated Words + Music brand campaign across identity, trailers, key art, print, OOH and social. The titles, audio and creative I produced formed part of the content foundation for that broader brand expression.
THE BRAND CAMPAIGN
From the Stage to Headphones
Live was part of Words + Music from the beginning with Patti Smith. I joined Audible to bring the franchise to the stage, leading shows with Tom Morello and Common at Minetta Lane Theatre and Rufus Wainwright at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica.
When the pandemic interrupted the live slate, Words + Music shifted toward premium audio and hybrid formats. Jazmine Sullivan’s project featured music performed live at World Cafe in Philadelphia, while John Legend’s was captured in full at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
